- Wakes are still common in this district. People sit up all night with the dead, and clay pipes and tobacco are handed round for the people to smoke. Candles are lit over the coffin.
It was a custom for the women of the district to gather together and make the shroud for the dead person, this custom has died out.
People never leave the corpse alone always somebody sits on until another person takes his place.
Funerals are attended largely in this district, and women walk behind the coffin as well as the men.- Bailitheoir
