- The people in this district endured great hardhips during the years of the famine. The present population of the Parish of Kilmurry Ibrickane is approximately three and a half thousand. Before the famine years there were three times as many people in the district than are at present. For example in John Kelly's farm in Finor More there were "seventeen fires quenched". In Kilchohane there was only one tenant named Markey McMahon left out of a total of twenty eight. In a field at Lynch's Cross, Cloonadrum there were seven houses and not a trace of a house is to be seen there at the present day.The potatoes blackened principally in the pits and the houses where they were stored. When the following Spring came the people picked what ever seed they could and even sowed the "peacs" and the pieces that were taken off the seed when cutting the potatoes.
The poor were in great straits. They visited the gardens at night time and "darted" for potatoes and turnip roots. They "darted" in this way:- they had a pointed piece of iron or timber and they stuck it here and(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
