“For some centuries the Whitstone family lived in Clondegad House...”
For some centuries the Whitstone family lived in Clondegad House (now occupied by Mr Pat Wall) but in the nineties of last century because of the lavish loose living of the family representative Frank Whitstone, the place was sold to Miss Rose O'Grady, sister of Mrs Ball of Fortfergus House.
She brought with her to Clondegad her nephew Captain Standish B. O'Grady, a dashing fearless horseman.
They both became very popular in the locality.
The Captain kept a pack of hounds and was for years master of the Clare Hounds.
He had a small grey mare famous as a jumper. At times she had a nasty temper but when in humour it was sweet to look at her take fences with her master on her back.
She was known by the name of "Bitter Sweet". This name was inscribed on(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
