- A rainbow in the west indicates that bad weather is on the way to us, and a rainbow in the east proves that bad weather is passing from us. Red clouds in the west at sunset, especially when they have a tint of purple portend fine weather. When the sun goes pale to bed and when a halo surrounds the moon bad weather is expected. When stars shine brightly in the sky it is the sign of a frosty night.
