- The school is built in the townsland of Tinateriffe, parish of Cappamore and County of Limerick.
The name means the "Mound of the Bull" and tradition says that long ago there was a wild bull roaming at large in the place. The people gathered one day and, having killed and buried him, placed a mound of earth and stones over his grave. There is a well in the townsland also and it is called the bull's well to this day.
Irish was spoken fluently in this district up to about one hundred years ago. Many Irish words and phrases are still used by the people.
