  1. Local Poets
The great tradition of poets and poetry in Bruree was recorded for us by Nora Deady and Kathleen O'Regan.
Dick Curran, who lived in a small house in Coolrea passage west of Rockhill village, was a poet of renown. He composed “The Boys of Garryfine” referring to a hurling team. His son Mick was a wandering poet. He composed several poems including “The Kilmallock Board of Guardians”.
Martin Meagher, a respectable, educated farmer, born at Fort East, Bruree, a trainer and breeder of race horses, was also a poet. He was a member of Kilmallock board of Guardians. His son Henry (Meagher) has also the gift. His piece on P. H. Pearse is a master piece. He also composed “I'm sitting on the style Mary” and “Ladies and their Hobble skirts”. Martin Meagher died at his residence at Fort East, Bruree.
Tim Meehan, Bruree, was also a poet. He lived in Bruree village near the school house. He composed several good poems which he published in “Ireland's Own”. He lived until 1910 and died in Bruree. He was a cooper by trade.
