- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Before the advent of wireless or telegraphs news of a ship approaching Cork Harbour on its way to the city of Cork was sent on to Cork by means of a series of signals.
The first of these signals was sent from behind Roches Point at the mouth of the harbour. When a ship was sighted a flag was hoisted on a flagstaff - kept specially for the purpose - on the top of a hill behind this headland. This flag could be seen from a corner of a field overlooking Passage West and another flag was put up at this point. The flat white stone on which this flagstaff rested is still to be seen. There is a round hole in the middle of it into which the flagstaff fitted. This stone and the field in which it stands is known as "Cape-Look-Out."
From this field the signal was transmitted to Blackrock Castle and from(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
