  1. In the portion of the Blackwater which flows through this district are the following fords:-
Kilcanway ford, Gaorthadh ford, Church Stream Ford, and Commane ford.
At the Kilcanway side, a passage still leads from the main road to the river but there remains no trace of a passage at the Ballymacmoy side of the river. This ford is quite convenient to the old seat of the Hennessy family at Ballymacmoy.
The ford on th "Church Stream" lies near to Momanimy Castle and was the usual place of crossing before the present bridge over the Blackwater at Killavullen was built. The road then in use lead from this ford through Mr. William Walsh's land and joined with the old road to Cork City, in the centre of the village at a place now known as "Buckley's Lane"
This old road to Cork, now disused lead between the townland of Carrigacunnan and Cappagh, and between the townlands of Glenagane and Cloughoular.
