  1. From the above family, the "Nagles Mountains" get their name. This family formerly possessed the entire district.
    Richard O Brien, before mentioned, informs me that the first of the Nagles came to this district during the time of the two Hughs and established themselves at Ballygriffin, just where he himself resides at present. The mansion of which no trace is left now had a frontage of 63 yards. It was from this parent house that the other branches of the family originated and came to be known in this parish as the Nagles of Monanimy Castle, the Nagles of Annakisha, the Nagles of Carrigacunner, and the Nagles of Ballyduff.
    It was here at Ballygriffin that Nano Nagle, Foundress of the Presentation Order of Nuns was born in the year 1719.
    As the English laws prohibited Catholic schools in Ireland, Nano received her early education from her parents. When she grew up she was sent to a Convent in Paris to complete her education. Having finished her studies, she was introduced
