- A ship came ashore near Ring Bar. turned upside down. It was loaded with timber & its name was unknown. The seaside people gathered the timber & drew it home with donkey and horse carts, boats. The matter was reported. The English military came & seized the timber & made the people who had removed it take it to Clonakilty Barracks. Any timber they had used had to be paid for.
It is unknown whether the crew were drowned or not, but some of the chain and anchors are still between the rocks; even a few days ago they were seen at low water.
