1. Composition - Birds

   The wild birds in the district are namely, the blackbird, cuckoo, wren, robin, swallow, goldfinch, owl, crow, willie wagtail, yellow hammer.
   The swallow migrates during the winter. The cuckoo and the corncrake also migrate.
   The weather is often judged by the actions of the birds. When the swallow fly low it is a sign of rain. When the seagull comes inland it is the sign of a storm. When the wild ducks go towards the North it is the sign of fine weather. When they come from the North to us it is a sign of cold weather.
   The birds build their nests in bushes, house eaves, holes in wall, fence trees. The birds build their nests with moss, hair, hay, wool, sticks and other things. The cuckoo makes no nest. It lays its eggs in another bird's nest. Some of the birds lay blue eggs and more of them lay speckled
