  1. Bartley Madden lived in Grove House in Ballymurry. As a boy of fifteen he joined the navy where he learned to box.
    After leaving the navy he resided at Ballymurry for some time. At the age of twenty-two he went to America where he took up boxing as a light heavyweight.
    He contested for the Championship with some of the best boxers in America.
