- Once upon a time there lived a man, his wife, his three sons, three daughters, and their grandmother, on a small farm of land. This man got on very well, because he did not interfere with a Leprechawn that lived on the best part of his land.
One day the man's wife told him that if he caught the Lepreacawn, and took away his gold, they would be rich forever. The grandmother told the man not to do this. At last the wife persuaded him to do it. So the man agreed.
One Summer night he went out and caught the lepreacawn, who made many attempts to get way but failed. He took a purse of gold that was always full from him, and let him go away. The man, who was then, very rich, sent his wife, sons, and daughters to the best school in Ireland.
Then he built a big mansion. One day the Lepeacawn told him that he would have his revenge another time. Some time later his servants came, and told him that a great whirlwind had turned his mansion into a heap of withered leaves.
