  1. A Story 14-11-'38.
    Once upon a time there lived two men. Named Jack to fool and Jim the wise man. They had a very small farm and Jim used to work on it and Jack used to work a round the house. In those times porridge was nearly all the food that used to be eaten. This day Jim went out working and he had a long distance to go and he told Jack when the porridge would be boiled to bring it out to him. So Jim told Jack to secure the cows well while he would be away and not to let them stir. Jack was a fool and when he was going out with the porridge to Him he cut the legs off the cows and said "Now ye won't stir anyway" So when he was going it was a very fine day and his shadow was on the ground. He thought it was a man after him for porridge and he kept throwing spoonfulls to his shadow. When he reached Jim he had no porridge left. He told Jim that there was a hungry devil after him and he had to keep throwing him the porridge. So Jim returned home and Jack with him when he reached the door he saw all the cows lying dead. So he knew Jack cut the legs off them. Then they were
