  2. Old women went around all day collecting rushes.
    At night time they peeled them, leaning one piece of skin to hold the pith together; they then dipped them in the grease of fat bacon.
    They sold them on the fairs and markets
    Farmers bought a supply in the fall and put them in a hole in the wall beside the fire called the rush trough.
