The names of the birds that live around here are; thrushes, robins, blackbirds, sparrows, chaffinchs, wagtails, linnets, magpies and crows.
It is very unlucky to kill a thrush. A poet says the following of the thrush:-"Don't kill the thrush boys
Don't rob it's nest
Of all the Irish birds
The brown thrush is the bestThe robin has a red breast. Where did he get it.? The folk around here say that when Our Lord was dying on the cross and His life blood gushing from Him the robin came and picked His nails until the blood ran down the robins breast
The old folk around here say that if you see a magpie in the morning it is a sign that you will have bad luck that day.
