   Who hurled the game for All-Ireland
   And led on the men of Mooncoin

   Though Erins old ranks have been broken
   That once were the pride of the past,
   And bitter the words that were spoken,
   We know they no longer can last;
   For the spirit of old cannot perish,
   So in unity now let us join
   To honour the hurlers of Ireland,
   And amongst them the men of Mooncoin.
   This song was written by the late Philip O Neill a native of Kinsale Co. Cork. He spent most of his life in Kilkenny and Waterford and was a great admirer of the Mooncoin and Kilkenny hurlers. He wrote many songs and poems under the pen name "Sliabh Ruadh." he died in September 1937 and is buried in Foulkstown cemetery near Kilkenny.
   The Doyles and the Dunphys are two families who live in Luffany. The Foxes live in Ballymountain. the Fieldings live in Rathkieran and Fewers in Aglish All these families produced great hurlers long ago and are still renowned for their present day hurlers
