There was a chain and a table in front of the fire for the master, and the children, sat on boxes, forming a circle around him. The pupils paid the master one shilling a quarter, for teaching them, and he slept in each of the pupils house, on turn.
The subjects usually taught, were reading and spelling. Any child who found any kind of a reader at home, brought it to school, and the master read it for the pupils. The other books used in the school were the Primer and the "Reademadisy". The "Reademadaisy" was used for lazy scholars.
