  1. Long ago, there were very few National schools, so the children went to "hedge schools", which were generally situated beside hedges and fences.
    In Deerpark, which is situated two miles from Boyle, there was a hedge school in olden times. A man named Master Griffin, taught there behind an old rock, which is situated on a hill. After some time the revenue men, heard about him, and went after him, so he had to hide.
    In St. Patrick's St., Boyle there was an old school, situated in the house where a family of Kieltys are now living. A man, named Master Frank Jones, taught there, and it is said
