   In my district the weather is always judged by the behaviour of certain birds. When the swallow flies low it is a sign of rain, while the shrill cry of the curliew foretells bad weather.
   Long, long ago when the birds were said to have the power of speech, a cuckoo was a terrible thief. In order to punish her, an eagle, who was the king of birds, sent two little birds with her wherever she went. Ever since the cuckoo has two little birds pursuing her.
