Some people say that these little birds think that the cuckoo is a hawk, and they think when they are following the cuckoo, that they are chasing away the hawk. The robin is sid to have pulled the thorns from Our Lord's head when He was dying on the Cross, and the Blood got on the robin's breast and that is why the robin has a red breast ever since. When boys or girls rob a swallows nest they get "bum-bools" (bonn bualadh, or buimbiol) on their feet. A swallow generally makes her nest in a shed on barn.
