  1. Marriage Customs (Various sources in district)
    (1) They say it is unlucky to get married on a Friday.
    (2) When the pair are getting married the people throw rice at them
    (3) They tie old boots to the car in which the married couple leave the church.
    (4) They say it is unlucky to get married on Whit Monday.
    5 They say it is lucky for the bride to wear:
    "Something old, Something new
    Something borrowed, + something blue"
    (6) Happy is the corpse that the rain falls on, and happy is the bride that the sun shines on.
    (7) "Straw-men" visit the house of the newly married couple on the night of the wedding and sing songs, light bonfires etc.
    Their object is to get "treated" to whiskey or other good things.
    (8) May is considered a very unlucky month for getting married.
