- In the month of February 1903 there was a terrific wind storm in this locality. It lasted for four or five days and during all that time people could not sleep in their beds for they were afraid their houses might be blown down on top of them. Many houses were blown down and the countryside looked a wild sight with hay stacks, gates, piers, walls and upturned trees all lying scattered about everywhere. It was dangerous to go out for many people were thrown to the ground and hurt, and then there was also the fear that one might be struck by a falling tree or wall, or buried under a falling hay rick. The cattle all rushed home from the fields when the storm began and roved about the houses cowing while the gale lasted.
