- About 100 years ago there was a very "Knowledgeable" (as he was called) man lived in the district of Lackagh, known by the name of Dr. Button. When man or woman, boy or girl got ill Dr. Button was sent for. He would put a number of questions to the patient or the patients' relatives and when he got them answered satisfactorily he proceeded to take the pulse with his watch in his left hand. Then he examined the tongue with a spoon, and looked at the eyes with the help of a rush candle.
After these preliminaries he gave his diagnosis and proceeded to prescribe.
