- There are six forts in this district. I know of only one having a name that is called "Coolen drine" that is in the townland of Currowbarnfield in James Flynn's land. There is one other forts in the townland. I have heard no name for it. There are big fences of earth around each of them, but no entrance has been discovered.
There are three forts in Tournanolough, two in Micheal Culloty's land and one in David Sullivan's land. One of the two in Culloty's land was opened a few years ago, and there were I think two rooms inside, they were about three feet high, three feet wide and a little longer. The entrance and roofing was done with larger flags. In the side walls were rough small stones and no mortar used.
There is but one fort in the townland of Currowcity and that was levelled and ploughed. It was in the land of Mike Davy Fleming's. In the fort in Flynn's farm it was said in former times that a man in the neighborhood, "Sullivan" of Droumroe was taken seriously ill and his wife was nursing him in bed and after three weeks the patient whom she thought to be her husband got out of bed and said "I am(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
