on a bread-board after which they were placed on a griddle to bake. The cakes were mixed by mixing some water with oaten meal and when it was "kneeded" it was placed on the griddle in front of a good fire and there it baked.
The griddle was a figure the shape of a picture frame that could stand up in a slant against a prop, with iron straps on its back and a strap along the bottom of it. There were also potato cakes and boxty cakes then. People got their own oat ground in times gone by in the mills of Dromahair, Riverstown and Boyle.
