- The name of my townland is Lahardane; it is in the parish of Ballybunion and in the barony of Irraghti Connor County Kerry. It contains thirteen families and about eighty-two people. The most common name is Murphy.
Nearly all the houses are thatched except a few. The word Lahardane means half the height. There are five people over seventy years and they do not know any Irish. John Diggin can tell stories in English.
The houses are more numerous in my townland than in former times. A great number of people emigrated to America and there is scarcely any house in the district that hasn't a friend in America. The land is boggy and good for tillage.- Bailitheoir
