  1. The people long ago knew nothing about pneumonia; they used to call it a pain in the side. They used to cure it with warm tow. The tow is the coarse part of flax. They would heat the tow by the fire and leave it on the affected part. The cure people had for a toothache was the lard of a frog. The juice of a dockleaf was a cure for the sting of a nettle. Long ago the people used to put a cobweb on a cut. They used to cut the dandelion and put it down to boil and drink the juice for a cold.
