- Long ago in Ireland the people were very hardy, and healthy because they used never to wear shoes. In Summer and Winter it was all the same they used always go about in their bare-feet, except on a Sunday they might wear shoes to church and if they had a long piece to go they would take off their shoes and carry them under their arm. When they would get near the Chapel they would put the shoes on. They could not walk very well in them, but the shoes were hurting them and then the people used to take bunions on(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
