In houses where children or young people are, they usually try this trick. They fill a shallow tub with water, and put an apple into it. Each one in turn dives and the first one that succeeds in catching it between his teeth, gets the whole apple for himself.
Children are afraid to go outside on that night for it is an old believed that the Pooka, some sort of fairy man, wanders about.
