    The Land League an organisation founded by Michael Davitt in 1879 had for its object was the stopping of rack-renting and evictions and to enable the Irish farmer to live and thrive.
    In 1885 the first Land Purchase Act passed a measure to enable Irish farmers to buy their farms from the land owners.
