- About seventy years ago a man named John Callaghan lived in Malin Head. Every night he played cards in a house about a mile from home. His sister Kate told him to be in in time for the Rosary as she did not want him to be out late playing cards but he always disobeyed. One night Kate was terribly angry and says she'd hope the devil will give you a siege tonight. He paid no attention to her but went on his journey. He played cards until eleven o'clock and then went home. On his way home he had to cross a wooden bridge. As he stepped on the bridge up jumped a big black cat on his whisker and began tearing his face. The man put up his hand to turn it away but could not. He remembered that he had his beads in his pocket. He took them out and the cat fell to the ground and vanished. When John went home that night he was terribly scared and from that night out he was never seen out of the door at night playing cards.
