    and dressing and practically all the building was done voluntarily for the priest by his flock. Day after day in the quarries, the foundations, on the scaffolding the old priest stood, personally supervising all that was done. The work began, completed and dedicated and the fine church of St. Mary Immaculate now stands as a noble monument not to the priest alone but to his people as well. The first mission given in 1867 by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate is commemorated by a granite cross in a corner of the church grounds.
