  1. The people of this district generally marry during Shrove-tide, but sometimes they marry during the summer. The following are the lucky and unlucky days for getting married according to the people of this district. Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for crosses, Friday for losses and Saturday for no luck at all. They have also an old saying about each month of the year in regard to marrying.
    "Marry when the year is new,
    And he'll be loving kind and true.
    In February when birds do mate,
    You may wed nor dread your fate;
    If you do marry when March wind blow,
    Joy and sorrow both you'll know;
    If you marry when April shines,
    Your living will be rich and fine;
    Marry in the month of May,
    And you will surely rue the day;
    If you marry when June roses grow,
    Over land and sea you'll go;
    If in July that you do wed,
    You will always have to labour for your bread;
    If in August that you do marry,
    Joy will come and riches tarry;
    When December snow falls fast,
    Marry and true love will last".
    They also have superstitions about what has to be worn on that
