  1. People had three meals a day in olden times. They were breakfast, dinner and supper. They used to make porridge in the morning and the people used to work while the porridge was boiling. They did not eat very late at night.
The meals consisted of porridge in the morning, potatoes at dinner-time and either potatoes or porridge to the supper. Sometimes potatoes were eaten to every meal when they were very plentiful. Buttermilk was drunk.
Before tables came into being they used to sit around a basket of potatoes in the middle of the floor and eat their dinner.
Oatmeal bread was eaten. It was made from oatmeal and it was cooked on an iron by the fire. Sometimes rich people used to kill some of their own animals for food. Oatmeal is now gone out of fashion.
