  1. Starch was made at home in olden times and in some places it is still made.
It is made from potatoes. First the potatoes are peeled and grated. Then they are strained by a special strainer for this purpose. They are strained into a basin or large vessel. Then in a few days the starch sets at the bottom of the basin. In a few days more this water is strained off and new water is poured on. This is repeated for about a fortnight until the starch is snowy white. Then it is hung up in a bag to dry. After that it is ready for use.
