  1. The following Superstition was one commonly observed by older folk during the churning process.
    If any stranger or friend for that matter, called at the house while the churning was taking place he would not under any conditions be allowed to take a drink of water. If he was thirsty he could have a drink of milk and if no milk could be got he had to bear with his thirst until the churning was completed.
    The underlying idea in this superstition was a belief that the visitor in drinking water might be the means of preventing the formation of the butter.
    Note.
    I found evidence of the observance of the above superstition among farmers in the townland of Taplagh, Broomfield, Castleblaney.
