Nearly all the corn is ripe in August. Then it is cut down. In recent years many of the big farmers have a reaper and binder to cut and bind their corn. More of the farmers cut their corn with a mowing machine while very few cut it down with a scythe. When corn is cut with a mowing machine or with a scythe a meitheal of people go around binding it into sheaves. When the corn is cut and bound into sheaves it is stooked by facing six sheaves against each other. It is left in stooks for a couple of days until it is quite dry and then it is made into stacks.
