- My Home District.
The name of my townland is Knockanillo or, "Cnoc an Éalóidh". It is in the parish of Ardagh and in the barony of Tirawley or, "Tír Amhalghaidh". There are five families in it. There are about twenty five people in it at present.
The family name most common in it is "Kavanagh". There are slated roofs on most of the houses. The village is said to have got its name from a prisoner who escaped (w) from his captives from a hill in it.
There are two inhabitants who are over seventy years. Their names are Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Gilligan, Knockanillo, Ballina.
They have very little Irish. Houses were far more numerous in former times. The ruins of old houses are to be seen in the village(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
