Aghatarn this town-land is on the southern shore of Orlar Lake. In Olden times people say on a certain Saturday a woman washing clothes on the lake shore saw a beautiful steed come out of the lake and gallop through the smooth field. She saw this steed several times but always on a Saturdayand in this way the place came to be called "Eac a tSathairn". Tooree flax was grown widely in mayo. Old people in this district point out places where the flax was washed or dried or bleached. Tooreen meaning a bleaching green was called that name from the work done there with the flax.
In some of the old houses bundles of flax are still kept.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
