- Bread was made from oatmeal long ago
grinds stones or qurns were used for grinding corn. There was a grind stone in Dunmacreena Irishtown Co Mayo.
The oatmeal cakes were made of little flour oatmeal and water and they were baked standing up by the fire supported by a sod of turf.
Bread was made once a week. The vessel in which the bread was made was called a loset. Griddle cakes were also made and potato cakes. The potato cake was made from flower and potatoes and milk was used in kneeding it. There was a cross put on every cake so that it would rise.
Sweet bread was made for Christmas and nice times(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
