  1. Over forty years ago, there was a great storm of thunder and lightning in this district. While my grandfather, Thomas Pettit, Broadway, was coming from Lady's Island a man named Scallan ran out of his house with his hat in his hand. My grandfather on seeing him asked him what was wrong. He replied that the chimney had been struck by lightning and he thought he was killed. The house in which he resided is now owned by Mike Purcell, the Postmaster, St Ivers.
