    The only bit of history attached to this village was often told by an old man who is now dead. He said that a battle was fought between the French and the English. It was at the time that the English were fleeing from the French on their way from Killala to Castlebar.
    A few years ago some of the farmers of the village when tilling the land dug up a number of skulls
