  1. There are about half a dozen forges in this parish and some of them are only a couple of miles from the school. They are Finegans, Hamill's, Duffy's Connors and Woods's. This man Woods is called the "Gó" Woods. "Gó" meaning gabha. He is called this because all his generations for years back were blacksmiths. He is a very good trades-man and a large number of people call to him. The forges are generally situated near a river as the smith always wants water to cool his irons and such like.
