- About the time of St. Patrick, there lived a Druid known as Sicín Tradhnach. His dwelling was on a rock in the Shannon towards Limerick.
Every night, at nightfall, this Druid lit a light and whoever looked on it was dead in the morning. When St. Patrick came to Limerick, they told him about it and he asked to be shown the light. The people did so and the St. raised his hand in prayer and quenched it; but it was again lit and again put out by St. Patrick. This happened three times and when put out the third time St. Patrick told the people that it wouldn't trouble them any longer.
Next day, Patrick got an invitation from the Druid to come and visit him and the St. accepted and went accompanied by his dog. When he reached the entrance to the Druid's Stronghold he beckoned to the dog to go before him and just as the dog stood on the threshold, he was killed by an arrow from overhead. St. Patrick then went in: but was told by a servant that his master couldn't be seen for he was asleep, whereupon Patrick said that the sleep would last until the world be at an end. From this incident has come the curse Codhladh an Tradhna ort".- Collector
