  1. Barm-bread, oatmeal-bread and boxty-bread were made in this district long ago
    Bread from wheat and wheat and oatmeal was also made locally.
    Wheatmeal was ground in Knockatudor, Tunnyin and at a mill at the old kiln as well as corn. John Clerkin's grandfather was miller in this mill when it was working.
    Querns were used for grinding wheat and corn in this district long ago.
    They were round flat stones with large holes in the centre of them in which to throw the wheat or corn. They were about a yard in diameter.
