   1. Marriages usually take place between Christmas and Easter. It is not a usual thing to be married on Shrove Tuesday, but on rare occasions, weddings take place on that day. 2. May is suppsed to be an unlucky month for a marraige. The old saying was "marry in May, you'll rue the day". "Thursday for losses" is another old saying. 3. Except one out of fifty, there is scarcely any match-making nowadays; when it is a "match" the intending groom takes a man as companion, along to the bride's house, and final arrangements for the wedding are discussed between "half-ones of whiskey", which has been brought by
