The women of the town stoned the police round the town. The Magistrate then ordered a bayonet charge. Then Killenkere priest met the D.I. on the street and the following conversation occurred.
    "I'd put this bayonet down your throat you bloody Papist," said the D.I.
    "I'd put this stick down yours," said the priest.
    Excitement was at such a high pitch that the Magistrate was thinking of reading an order for the police to fire on the crowd. After the fight the guards were afraid to put out their noses because they might get a blow of a black-thorn. When the votes
