  1. The Big Wind of 1839 caused great damage in Ballyjamesduff. The roof was blown off the Catholic Church and many out - houses belonging to the people. At this time the people used to keep their money in notes and have it rolled up and tied to the bottom of their beds and when the big wind came the money was all saved.
