1. A Wise Old Man

   Once upon time there lived in the townland of Gurteen a man named Pat Finnegan. He was like many a man of his age very fond of playing cards.
   Some nights he would leave his home at seven o clock and return at four or five in the morning. One night it happened that he got an invitation to a game of "25" in a far off neighbours house. Close to nightfall he ate his supper of stirabout and buttermilk and started off on his usual evening and mid - night ramble
   Pat "hit the road" and reached his neighbours house at nine o'clock. When about twenty games had past Pat thought it was better "bundle" for home. He had to pass through a very lonely part of the country. When he reached "Pofantree" he met a man who said "Tell me something I will not do or I'll turn you in to a pack of cards"
